Difference between conversion of shipping bill and amendment of shipping bill
In an export and import trade, the term conversion and amendment is used wrongly by some traders. Let us examine the difference between the term amendment and conversion.
Normally, the term conversion is used in customs to change shipping documents from one scheme to another scheme. Exporters enjoy various export facilities from different government agencies in many categories. For example, Duty exemptions under Advance license, Duty entry pass book schemes, draw back, advance authorization schemes, Export Promotion capital goods, DFRC etc. are some of the export benefit schemes provided by India Government for exporters. While filing export customs legal documents like shipping bill, the exporter should clearly mention on the documents, under which schemes the documents are filed.
Amendment of shipping bills means changing or correction in shipping bill. Amendment is taken place to correct one more words in any column which does not effect the structure of shipping bill. However, conversion of shipping bills means changing the structure of shipping bill. It can be a change of scheme from one to another or from duty free shipping bills to other mode of shipping bills.
In an amendment of shipping bill, the structure of whole shipping bill does not change where in a conversion of shipping bills the structure of whole shipping bill is changed to another scheme or what ever.
As you know, there different types of shipping bills. Free shipping bills, DEEC/DEPB/DFRC shipping bills, Drawback shipping bills etc. In a conversion of shipping bills, the scheme of shipping bill is converted to another scheme mode. For example, DEEC shipping bill to draw back shipping bill, free shipping bill to DFRC shipping bill, Advance authorization scheme bill to DEEC/DFRC bill etc. The conversion may be effected for one or more schemes together also. For example, conversion of free shipping bill to DEPB and drawback shipping bills etc.
