Shipment Date and Bill of Lading date.
Difference between Let Export Date/ Shipment Date and Bill of Lading date.
In this article, I would like to explain the difference between shipment date and bill of lading date and Let export order date.
How to differentiate between Let export order date, Bill of Lading date and Shipment Date?
Date of let export date means, the date on which the export customs clearance procedures completed with customs. Once after movement of cargo at export customs location and after completion of necessary export legal procedures by filing shipping bill and other required documents with customs, the customs officials approves to move goods outside India, by signing on shipping bills and other documents. This approval is called ‘let export’ order.
I have written a couple of articles about the mechanism of Let Export Order, Release of Bill of Lading etc. in this web site. You may go through the same to have a clear idea on the subject.
Normally, date of bill of lading is widely accepted as date of shipment. The shipping carrier can move goods only after obtaining proof of let export order obtained by exporter or his customs house agent. The shipping company can legally say ‘goods received’ only after receiving such ‘let export order’ proof along with goods. Bill of lading can be issued by carrier to exporter only after receiving a proof of such let export order along with cargo. So date of bill of lading is the date mentioned in a bill of lading. Also read Can shipping line predate Bill of Lading, What is the earliest date can be mentioned on Bill of Lading. What is the earliest date can be mentioned on Bill of Lading. Can BL date and let export date be same day? Can Bill of Lading (BL) be before date of Certificate of origin GSP?
In short, the earliest date of bill of lading is the date of ‘let export order’ which is the proof of completion of export legal customs formalities.
I hope, I could clarify about Let Export Order, Shipment Date and Bill of Lading date.
