Terms used in shipping
Agent/Distributor Service - "The Agent/Distributor Service, ADS, is an International Trade Administration (ITA) fee-based service which locates foreign import agents and distributors."
Aggregate Shipment:Numerous shipments from different shippers to one consignee that are consolidated and treated as a single consignment.
Agreed valuation:The value of a shipment agreed upon in order to secure a specific freight rate.
Agreed Weight:The weight prescribed by agreement between carrier and shipper for goods shipped in certain packages or in a certain number.
Agrement - Agreement by one government to accept the accreditation of an ambassador from another government.

Air Cargo Agent - A type of freight forwarder who specializes in air cargo and acts for airlines that pay him a fee (usually 5%). The Air Cargo Agent is registered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA).

Air Freight Forwarder - "A type of freight forwarder who specializes in air cargo. The Air Freight Forwarder usually consolidates the air shipments of various exporters, charging them for actual weight and deriving his profit by paying the airline the lower consolidated rate. "
Air Freight Forwarder - They provide pickup and delivery service under their own tariff, consolidates air shipments into larger units, prepares shipping documentation, and also tenders shipments to the airlines. Since they do not usually operate their own aircraft, they are also called "indirect air carriers." The airlines consider these forwarder as shipper because they tender the shipment.
Air Waybill - It is a shipping document used for the transportation of airfreight that includes conditions, limitations of liability, shipping instructions, description of commodity, and the applicable transportation charges. It is usually similar to a non-negotiable bill of lading and is used for similar purposes.
Air Waybill (AWB):Specifies the terms under which the air carrier is agreeing to transport the goods and contains limitations of liability; contract between shipper and carrier.
Air Waybill (Of Lading) - "A signed receipt and a contract to deliver goods by air. Such bills are non-negotiable and do not convey title to the goods as do ""To Orders"" bills of lading used by ocean and land carriers. The title passes to the party to whom the goods are consigned.
Air Waybill number (AWB):The number assigned to a shipment by FedEx, and used to track a package.
Air WayBill:An AWB is a bill of lading which covers both domestic and international flights transporting goods to a specified destination. Technically, it is a non-negotiable instrument of air transport which serves as a receipt for the shipper, indicating that the carrier has accepted the goods listed therein and obligates itself to carry the consignment to the airport of destination according to specified conditions. Normally AWB refers to the Air Waybill issued by carrying airlines and also called Master Air Waybill (MAWB) which comes with three digits of numeric airline identification codes issued by IATA to non-U.S. based airlines and Air Transport Association of America to U.S. based airlines. However, air freight forwarders also issue HAWB (House Air Waybill ) to their customers for each of the shipments.
Air Waybill:The forwarding agreement or carrying agreement between shipper and air carrier and is issued only in nonnegotiable form.

Aircraft Container :A unit load device ( ULD ) which links directly with the airplane cargo handling and restraint system.
Air-ride trailer:trailers that ride on airbags that are positioned between the axle and the trailer; airbag compresses and decompresses to absorb vibration from road, so trailer stays level and cargo is unaffected.
Airwaybill:Document raised for each airfreight shipment, outlining all the shipment's details, an 'Airwaybill Number' is issued, this enables your shipment to be identified with the carrier, allowing track-ability during transit.

All Risk Insurance - It is a clause in marine insurance policies which covers loss and damage from external causes, like fire, collision, pilferage, etc. excluding innate flaws in the goods, like decay, germination and faulty packaging, improper packing/ loading or loss of market, war, strikes, riots and civil commotions. All Risk: All Risks Coverage, a type of marine insurance, is the broadest kind of standard coverage, but excludes damage caused by war, strikes, and riots.

Alliance:Group of airlines or ocean carriers who coordinate and cross list schedules, and sell capacity on each other’s flights/voyages.
Allotment: A term used to describe blocked space by airlines on behalf of forwarders/shippers.
All-Risk Clause - An insurance provision that all loss or damage to goods is insured except inherent vice (self-caused).
