How to avoid two import DO charges at destination
The information provided here is part of Export Import Online Tutorial
Any business organization’s focus is to increase profit by minimizing expenses. So if a shipper gets better freight rate, he delivers cargo to the carrier where he is benefited. Normally freight forwarder can provide better rate as they consol goods of different shippers. In other words, a freight forwarder hire higher volume of space from vessel or aircraft and sells space to different shippers.
In some cases, the said freight forwarder re-sells his space to another freight forwarder. Remember, now there are three carriers involved. The third carrier A accepts goods from final shipper and issues his House Bill of lading or House airway bill to shipper.
The said third carrier A re-books the said cargo to second carrier B and obtains another house bill of lading or house airway bill. Again, the second carrier rebooks the same cargo to main carrier C and obtains his bill of lading or airway bill.
Here the point is, after arrival of goods at final destination, the final consignee has to obtain three delivery orders from the overseas counter part of A,B and C against one shipment!
In such cases, if the final shipper wants to enjoy the freight amount from the carrier A, he (final shipper) has to advise the carrier A to consign the cargo directly with the carrier C, without mentioning any freight forwarder’s details in bill of lading or airway bill. Let the freight payment be routed through A,B and C but all documentation should be directly with the main carrier C.
So avoid more than one co-loaders in between for any consol shipment to avoid exorbitant delivery order charges at destination under one shipment.
Hope, I could convince you on the subject. Feel free to discuss on this subject.
