Can two consignments meant for one buyer is shipped together under one Bill of Lading?

This is one of the clarifications from supplier of goods. Can I club two shipments under one bill of lading? If two consignments under one bill of lading or one airway bill means two shipments are put together under one airway bill or one bill of lading. Technically this statement itself is wrong. Because, if a supplier ships two ‘consignments’ it must be under two bill of lading or airway bill as two shipments. Am I right?

Why does buyer require to be shipped under two consignments to a single buyer?

There may have various reasons behind shipping more than one consignment separately to one buyer under different airway bill or bill of lading. For example, the importer at destination port needs to claim different products under different government schemes. Each consignment may fall under each scheme.

In some cases, the exporter need to file export documents under separate categories while exporting to account as separate shipments to claim any export benefits.

If an exporter or importer needs to split shipment in to two or more consignments, such consignments are treated as separate shipment under separate Bill of Lading / Airway bill. This arrangement helps exporters/importers in various levels to claim government benefits, duty exemptions or other benefits from various government agencies.
