Export or Importer responsible for customs clearance under DDP delivery rules?
Delivered Duty Paid (DDP) is one of the terms of delivery under Inco Terms 2020. The buyer Seller meets all risks and costs involved in Exporter’s country, main carriage and all costs and risks involved in buyers country to move the goods to the destination place mentioned in the contract of carriage.
One of the main differences between DAP and DDP is that under DAP, buyer is responsible to undertake import customs clearance and taxes . However under DDP terms, seller is liable to undertake the cost and risk of import customs clearance.
So in Export Import business, under DDP terms of delivery to move goods under inco terms, the exporter is liable to bear the cost and risk of Import customs clearance.
Except under DDP terms, import customs clearance is taken care by the buyer among other D rules of Inco terms 2020.
In short, under DDP terms, seller is responsible to arrange import customs clearance.
