Is Terminal handling charges at various ports in a country same? If not, Why does Terminal Handling Charges vary from port to port in a country?
THC means, Terminal Handling Charges. As you know, the expenses in handling equipments in a container terminal vary from one place to another in a country. Hence, the Terminal Handling Charges also varies from one port to another port in same country.
The THC charges at each terminal all over world vary one to another. The terminal handling charges of each port in a country also differs with another port of same country.
Who has to pay Terminal Handling Charges in an Export Import contract?
In a consignment of sea transport of export, there are two THC involved, Terminal Handling Charges at load port and Terminal Handling Charges at destination port.
THC – Terminal Handling Charges is paid based on the terms of delivery agreed between buyer and seller in their export contract. As you are aware, if contract of terms of delivery is on FOB, CFR, CIF, CPT, DAP, DDU, DDP etc., the THC is paid by the shipper at load port. However the destination port THC need to be paid by the buyer under these types of delivery terms. In an export import business contract, if term of delivery is on EX-WORKS basis, the THC at load port and destination port has to be paid by the buyer of goods.
