: Government registration is required to become an importer in the country to act as an importer. Foreign Trade government office of respective country is responsible to issue such authorization to become an importer. In India, IEC number (Import Export Code Number) is obtained from the office of Director General of Foreign Trade office to operate as an importer and exporter in India. Registration procedures to act as an importer are a onetime process, but renewal may be required as per the terms and conditions of such foreign trade office of a country. Anti dumping duty

Import is allowed against a licence in form 'D' granted by the chief controller of explosives under gas cylinders rules,2004. No cylinder filled with any compressed gas shall be imported by air save with the previous sanction in each case of the director general of civil aviation. Import of 1) welded low carbon steel gas cylinders for low pressure liquefiable gas (sr. No's. 53, 54, 55 and 58 of appendix iii to schedule i of itc-hs) ; 2) refillable seamless steel gas cylinders; normalized steel cylinders; 3) refillable seamless quenched and tempered steel gas cylinders with tensile strngth less than 1100 mpa (112 kgf/mm2); 4) welded and seamless steel dissolved acetylene gas cylinders and 5) LPG containers for automotive use is subject to complianc with the mandatory quality standards (bis) as per import policy.

jawahar gupta : i am working in a garment export company Mumbai one day our export mgr told me that importer requires an export (a kind of value/money related) certificate from exporters / (or own exports) to import something. and for this importer pay better (+1.5%)rate than bank to us(exporter)...and for this, many importers remain in contact with us. is this true? and what exactly he wanted to say. my question is: one can import the things only when one may show the value of export done...

mohan: My goods are basically copper and standard steel kitchen household products. Another product is jute and cotten made eco friendly bags. I would like import the above products and would like to know wheater these products are exempted of tax under AFTA and how am I import them to Malaysia under COO/ GSP.
