Terms used in international trade business

 

Fast Track Negotiating: Authority provided by the U.S. Congress to the Executive Branch to negotiate amendment-proof trade agreements.

 

FB - Freight bill.

 

FBL:Forwarder's Bill of Lading

FCA - "Free carrier" to named place. Replaces the former term "FOB named inland port" to designate the seller's responsibility for the cost of loading goods at the named shipping point. May be used for multimodal transport, container stations, and any mode of transport, including air.

FCA: free carrier. This is an Incoterm - see the Incoterms 2000 website for more information. The seller is responsible for clearing the goods for export and delivering them to a specified place. This could be the seller's premises or those of a carrier or freight forwarder. The place of delivery determines who is responsible for loading or unloading the goods. Once the goods are delivered the buyer bears all costs and risks.

 

FCIA - Foreign Credit Insurance Association.

 

FCL:Full Container Load

 

FCR:Forwarder's Certificate of Receipt

 

FCT:Forwarder's Certificate of Transport

 

FD:Free Discharge / Free Delivery

 

Federal Maritime Commission (FMC) - U.S. Government Agency responsible for overseeing regulatory aspects of all maritime activities.

 

Federal Register - Government publication that prints rules/regulations of federal agencies on a daily basis; rules and regulations must be published to become legal in most cases.

FEU (Forty Foot Equivalent Unit) - 40' container equals 2 TEUS.

FF (Freight Forwarder) - Federally licensed company that handles documentation details for shipper of export cargo.

 

FFA: Free From Alongside / Free Foreign Agency

 

FFI: For Further Instructions

 

FGA: Free of General Average

 

FI - Free in. A pricing term indicating that the charterer of a vessel is responsible for the cost of loading and unloading goods from the vessel.

 

FIA:Full Interest Admitted

 

FIATA:International Federation of Freight Forwarders Association

 

FIB:Free into Barge

 

FICA:Foreign Credit Insurance Association

 

FICS:Fellow of the Institution of Chartered Shipbrokers

floating exchange rates:A system under which the exchange rate for converting one currency into another is continuously adjusted depending on the laws of supply and demand.

FOB - "Free on board" at named port of export. A pricing term indicating that the quoted price covers all expenses up to and including delivery of goods upon an overseas vessel provided by or for the buyer.

 

Fob airport - No longer a valid Incoterm, see FCA, Inctoterms® 2010.

 

FOB: free on board. This is an Incoterm - see the Incoterms 2000 website for more information. The seller clears the goods for export and delivers when the goods are passed over the ship's rail at the specified port. From this point on the buyer bears all costs and risks.

 

FOBA:Free on Board Aircraft

 

FOBS:Free on Board and Stowed
