The terms used in central excise
Customs Duty:Customs duty is a kind of indirect tax which is levied on goods of international trade. Duties levied in relation to imported goods are referred to as import duty and duties levied on the export consignments are called export duty.
Customs Tariff of India:In India, the Customs Tariff was incorporated as Schedules to the Indian Tariff Act, 1934. The First Schedule to this Act was the Import Tariff and the Second Schedule was the Export Tariff. The Customs Tariff Act, 1975, with the above Schedules, came into effect on 2nd August, 1976. The Import Schedule was based on the Customs Co-operation Council Nomenclature, which was also known as "Brussels Tariff Nomenclature" (BTN). Further, with effect from 28th February, 1986, the above Tariff was revised based on the Harmonised System of Nomenclature (HSN) adopted by the World Customs Organisation (WCO). The Harmonised System Nomenclature (HSN) which is otherwise known as "Harmonised Commodity Description and Coding System" was evolved by the World Customs Organisation and came into effect in the Harmonised System Convention from 01.01.1988, i.e. almost two years later. During the period and until 31st January, 2003, the Tariff consisted of 6 Digit code.
CWA - Clean Water Act - The Act established the basic structure for regulating discharges of pollutants into the waters of the United States. It gave the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) the authority to implement pollution control programs such as setting wastewater standards for industry. The Clean Water Act (CWA) also continued requirements to set water quality standards for all contaminants in surface waters. The Act made it unlawful for any person to discharge any pollutant from a point source into navigable waters, unless a permit was obtained under its provisions. It also funded the construction of sewage treatment plants under the construction grants program and recognized the need for planning to address the critical problems posed by nonpoint source pollution.
DAMIS - Drug and Alcohol Management Information System - Recipients of federal funds under Sections 5307, 5309, and 5311 or Chapter 53 of Title 49 of the United States Code are required to implement drug and alcohol testing programs, and submit annual reports to the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) through the Drug and Alcohol Management Information System (DAMIS). These annual reports serve as a primary source for evaluating the effectiveness of federal regulations and for supporting future modifications. This project supports the collection and analysis of reports from grantees, summarizing their test results and publishing an annual report. Data collected under this program are an important factor in FTA decisions concerning audits of drug and alcohol testing programs.
DAPM - Drug and Alcohol Manager - Person responsible for administering the drug and alcohol program, often an existing employee with other related duties in human resources, personnel, or risk management.
DBE - Disadvantaged Business Enterprises Program - Is a Department of Transportation (DOT) program that is intended to ensure nondiscrimination in the award and administration of DOT assisted contracts in the Department's highway, transit, airport, and highway safety financial assistance programs.
DC - Direct Cost -Those that can be identified specifically with a particular cost objective. These costs may be charged directly to grants, contracts, or to other programs against which costs are finally lodged.
DEA - Drug Enforcement Administration - A law enforcement agency tasked with combating drug smuggling and use within the U.S.
DER - Designated Employee Representative - Employee and/or person acting as the liaison with drug and alcohol service agents and/or third party administrator.
DEST - Destination - The zone in which any trip terminates, a travel demand modeling (TDM) term.
DFWA - Drug-Free Workplace Act - The Drug-Free Workplace Act of 1988 requires some Federal contractors and all Federal grantees to agree that they will provide Drug-Free Workplaces as a condition of receiving a contract or grant from a Federal agency.
DHHS - Department of Health and Human Services - United States government's principal agency for protecting the health of all Americans and providing essential human services, especially for those who are least able to help themselves.
DHS - Department of Homeland Security - A federal agency whose primary mission is to help prevent, protect against, and respond to acts of terrorism on United States soil.
DHV - Design Hourly Volume - Total traffic in both directions generally representing the highest hour of volume of the future year chosen for design purposes.
DMD - Department of Metropolitan Development - Houses the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Indianapolis urbanized area.
DMMPC - Delaware-Muncie Metropolitan Plan Commission - The designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the Muncie urbanized area.
DMS - Demand Response System - Personal transit service operated on roadways to provide service on demand. Vehicles are normally dispatched and used exclusively for this service.
DNR - Indiana Department of Natural Resources - The State of Indiana agency charged with managing and protecting the natural resources, and natural recreation areas within the state.
DOC - Department of Commerce - United States department concerned with promoting economic growth.
DOD - Department of Defense - The federal department charged with coordinating and supervising all agencies and functions of the government relating directly to national securityand the military.
DOE - Department of Energy - United States department responsible for energy policy.
DOE - Indiana Department of Education - Created in 1979 the Department of Education (ED or DOE) responsibility is to formulate federal funding programs involving education and to enforce federal educational laws regarding privacy and civil rights.
DOL - Department of Labor - United States department responsible for occupational safety, wage and hour standards, unemployment insurance benefits, re-employment services, and some economic statistics.
DOT - Department of Transportation - The United States Department of Transportation oversees federal highway, air, railroad, maritime and other transportation administration functions; components include the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), Federal Register (FRA), National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), etc. All state have their own similar agencies.
DU - Dwelling Unit - Any building or portion thereof which contains living facilities, including provisions for sleeping, eating, cooking and sanitation for no more than one family.
DUNS - Data Universal Numbering System - Provided by Dun & Bradstreet, a Duns Number (DUNS) is used by the government to identify contractors and their locations.
DVMT - Daily Vehicle Miles Traveled - The total number of miles driven per day in a specified area by all vehicle types.
DVRT - Daily Vehicle Kilometers of Travel - The total number of kilometers driven per day in a specified area by all vehicle types.
DWD - Department of Workforce Development - Indiana Department of Workforce Development (IDWD) manages and implements innovative employment programs for Hoosiers, unemployment insurance systems, and facilitates regional economic growth initiatives for Indiana.
E-85 - Fuel Consisting of 85% Ethanol and 15% Petroleum - Fuel Consisting of 85% Ethanol and 15% Petroleum.
