What is EDIFACT?
EDIFACT is an abbreviated term for Electronic Data Interchange For Administration, Commerce and Transport. It is a standard set of syntax rules have been ratified by the United Nations for the electronic interchange of structured data, between independent computerized information systems. The three major components of EDIFACT are a standard syntax for structuring data, interactive-EDI (i- EDI), and standard messages to adapt interaction among various industries and countries.
EDIFACT is approved, supported, and published by the UN Centre For Trade Facilitation And E-Business (UN/CEFACT). The rules are announced in the United Nations Trade Data Interchange Directory (UNTDID).
