Refrigerated Containers or Reefer Containers

Perishable goods such as vegetables, fruits, meat, dairy products etc. are generally transported in Refrigerated Containers or Reefer Containers.

Reefer Containers are used for transporting non-food products such as pharmaceuticals, flowers, and film across many miles and oceans too.

Some cargoes may need to be shipped chilled or frozen or in controlled temperatures. Reefer containers have the ability to maintain the cargo at the required temperatures for the duration of the transit. Reefer units are designed to maintain the temperature at which the cargo was loaded i.e, they are not designed to pull down a cargo temperature.

Reefer Container is fitted with a refrigeration unit which is connected to the carrying ship's electrical power supply. If the vessel’s generator capacity is not enough to support the additional power consumption of the refrigerated containers, mobile power packs are installed on the ship. Their bottom air delivery units designed to distribute chilled air from the floor, via specific T-shaped decking, with the advantage of producing a consistent and uniform flow of air across the entire shipment, powerful enough to ensure a perfect air exchange with the goods.

Types of Refrigerated Shipping Containers are:

1. Closed Reefer

2. Modified/ Controlled Atmosphere (MA/CA) reefer containers

3. Automatic Fresh Air Management Containers
