A person exporting any article of commercial value from Sri Lanka is required to register with following institutions.
a) Sri Lanka Export Development Board - EDB Registration Number
b) Inland Revenue Department – Tax Identification No. (TIN Number/VAT Number)
c) Sri Lanka customs
Sri Lanka Customs is operating under Ministry of Finance and Mass Media which are responsible for facilitating legitimate trade, facilitates international trade, collection of revenue, collection of export import data etc.
The person exporting any goods is required to deliver a goods declaration to the Director General of Customs. In Sri Lanka, the Good declaration is known as the CUSDEC i.e, Customs Goods Declaration.
Direct Trader Input (DTI)
Direct Trader Input enables an exporter or his agent (declarent) to complete the full Customs formalities remotely from that Declarent’s office.
The Automation of processing has been now fully implemented through: “Asycuda World” to facilitate the importers to process the CUSDEC without delay.
The efficiency of the Customs Clearance process is depend on having the valid documents, the accuracy of the information provided in the documents as well as the promptness in submitting the documents and filing the necessary applications for the Customs Clearance. The exporter should make sure that they made all of the accurate export documents that are required to get the goods delivered through the port, cleared customs, satisfy all compliance and regulations, then loaded on board the pre determined carrier.
Generally in all countries there are three stages of process for export. One time registration procedure to obtain export licence, documentation needed for exportation and Export customs clearance formalities.
