Terms used in business

 

Capitalized Items:  Assets with an economic life of one year or more.  (The cost is moved to the balance sheet and these costs can be written down by depreciation or amortization over time.)

 

Capitialism - When an economic system of a country is controlled and profited by private individuals and corporations, rather than the government.

 

Capped-Rate - Interest rate, usually on a loan, which cannot rise above the upper set level but can vary beneath this level.

 

Carbon Credit - Allows the right to emit a measured amount of harmful gases, such as carbon dioxide, into the air, and can be traded between businesses and countries.

Under the system, card containing the name, address and the holder number of the correspondent are kept in separate card drawers either loose or inserted on a rod passing through the drawer. Caribbean Community and Common Market (CARICOM) - CARICOM consists of Antigua & Barbuda, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, St. Kitts & Nevis, St. Lucia, St. Vincent & The Grenadines, Suriname, and Trinidad & Tobago. Its purpose is to provide a continued economic linkage after the dissolution of the West Indies Federation for English-speaking countries in the Caribbean.

 

Carload - A shipment of goods which, typically by weight, qualifies for a lower shipping rate. The term 'Less than carload' refers to a shipment which is below the given size/weight necessary to qualify for such a rate. The term originated from USA railway freight car transportation and also applies to other methods of freight transport, notably shipping containers, hence similar terms containerload and 'less than containerload'.

 

Carnet / Carnet :Document signed by customs which provides a detailed synopsis of the equipment professional take along with them when travelling outside the European Union, and exempting such professionals from formalities upon their return to Belgium.

 

Carnet - An international official permit which allows you to take certain goods, e.g. for display or demonstration, into another country, duty free, for a specific period - usually 12 months.

 

Carpet Bomb - To send an advertisement to a large number of people by e-mail or onto their computer screens.

 

Carriage forward / (en) port dû :A condition of sale pursuant to which the cost of transporting goods is paid by the receiver.

 

Carrier - An individual or entity that transports persons or goods for compensation under the contract of carriage.

 

Carrier Identification Code (CIC) - A number assigned to any entity purchasing Feature Group B and/or D services. These codes are used with Feature Group B access as 950-XCIC, where X equals any digit 0 to 9 and CIC equals Carrier Identification Code, and casual calling with 10CIC.

 

Cartage - The delivery of goods over a short distance.

 

Cartel - A group of separate companies or nations which together agree to control prices and not compete against each other. Also known as a Price Ring.

 

Cartel - An agreement among, or an organization of, suppliers of a product to limit production in order to minimize competition and maximize market power.

 

Carveout:  The portion of a listing agreement between a business owner and a business broker in which the broker excludes certain parties (potential buyers) from the listing agreement

 

Cash - includes all money that is available on demand including bank notes and coins, petty cash, certain cheques, and money in savings or debit accounts.

 

Cash account: Account conducted on a cash basis, no credit

 

Cash accounting - an accounting system that records transactions at the time money is actually received or paid.

 

CASH ACCOUNTING:The simplest form of accounting in which income is considered earned when received and expenses are not taken into account until paid.

 

Cash Against Documents (CAD) - Payment for goods where a commission house or other intermediary transfers title documents to the buyer upon payment in cash.

 

Cash book - a daily record of all cash, credit or cheque transactions received or paid out by a business.

 

Cash Call - A request by a company to its shareholders to invest more money.

 

Cash Cow - A steady dependable source of income which provides money for the rest of a business.

 

Cash Cow: A product that sells well and makes a substantial profit without requiring much advertising or investment.

 

Cash Credit: This is an arrangement under which a customer is allowed by the bank to overdraw his current account, up to a certain .specified limit. For this purpose, the customer is required to deposit some kind of security with the bank to cover the amount of credit (over draft) granted to him.

 

Cash discount: A deduction that is given for prompt payment of a bill.

 

Cash Discount: It is a rebate or an allowance from the invoice price allowed’ by the seller when payment is made in cash immediately after or within a reasonable time length from the date of presentation of the bill.

Cash flow - the measure of actual cash flowing in and out of a business.

 

Cash Flow Forecast - Also called Cash Flow Projection. An estimate of the amounts of cash outgoings and incomings of a company over a specific time period, usually one year.

 

Cash Flow Statement - The report that shows the cash the company has at the beginning of the period, adds the cash that came into the business and subtracts the cash that went out then calculating the new total of the cash amount at the end of the period. A “period” is typically a month, three months or a year.

 

Cash flow: The actual movement of cash within a business; the analysis of how much cash is needed and when that money is required by a busi­ness within a period of time.

 

Cash in Advance (CIA) - Payment for goods in which the price is paid in full before the shipment is made. This type of payment is usually only made for very small shipments or when goods are made to order.

 

Cash in Advance: An international payment method where payment for goods is received via wire transfer from the buyer before the exporter ships the goods. This payment method results in zero risk for the seller and 100% of the commercial risk for the buyer.

 

Cash incoming - money that is flowing into the business.

 

Cash on delivery (COD) / Paiement à la livraison :Cash on delivery

Cash outgoing - money that is flowing out of the business.

 

Cash price / Prix pour un paiement comptant :The price a seller will accept if payment is made immediately.

 

Cash receipts: The money received by a business from customers.

 

Cash With Order (CWO) - Payment for goods in which the price is paid at the time the order is placed.

 

Cash Flow:  Profit after principal and interest are deducted from net operating  income (NOI)
